Emmanuel is a singer, songwriter, choir director and experienced performer. He was born in French Guyana and has been involved in music for over 20 years. From an early age, Emmanuel developed a love for music through experiences as early as the tender age of six where he was part of his church children choir in French Guyana.
As he and his family migrated to New York at the age of 7, he went on to sing in various groups and choirs, including his childhood choir “The Child of The King Choir” at the Christian Fellowship SDA church. Of this experience he says: “I have such fond memories of when we would have to stand for hours practicing one little section of the song until we had every note engrained into out little brains”.
That choir, at the time being conducted by “Professor Karl Jackson”, demanded a level of perfection expected to resound through every note and in every song. This early voice training has developed into what is now a passion for excellence in music delivery, and an ear for originality along with love for a variety of music styles.
He began writing at the early age of 13 and still has documents of his lyrics and music for his first few songs. Having now a compilation of over 275 written compositions of music, he is excited as he continues to write.
Emmanuel says: “…it is rare that a week goes by without writing at least one or two songs… some weeks I write one or two songs in a day”. It is this passion for writing that lets me know that I am following what God has called me to do. As long as God continues to inspire me with music, I will continue to write.”
His original songs vary in style and lyrical content. One common thread that runs through his music and his performances is “thought provoking lyrics packaged in musically innovating melodies and harmonies”.
Keeping his music fresh and relevant has led him to perform in a wide variety of circles ranging from coffee shops to national gospel concerts, Christian contemporary events and non-Christian events. He has been director for over 25 different choirs and groups and music coordinator for several major events. Some of the events that he has coordinated range from small coffee shop events to benefit concerts, national Christian events for different organizations and local concerts for schools and churches.
One of his most memorable events in the recent past was a Benefit concert where he was the featured artist and was able to share the message of hope in despair as many people like him suffer with sickle cell disease; which is a hereditary blood disease found predominantly in people of African decent and in Latinos. Through this type of benefit work, awareness is being heightened in local communities, and people are seeing how it is possible to live with a life threatening illness and overcome obstacles to make a difference in their world.
Emmanuel says: “I want people to know that disease is not a reason to quit, or question God’s existence, but rather a good reason to believe that God doesn’t give up on humanity even when we have handicaps… whether they be physical, emotional, spiritual or otherwise-hence, we keep living”.
Emmanuel is very involved in the fight against sickle cell disease. He is currently completing his masters’ degree in experimental psychology at Loma Linda University and his research is on sickle cell disease. He intends on being a voice for this disease until a cure is found.
All of his music seeks to present hope, and evidence of God’s presence in our current world. He is out to touch as many lives as he can through his gift, and he hopes to start with you.
Currently, he is still writing new music and performing in an unlimited variety of circles as he aspires to reach the people with his message of hope. His long anticipated album will be a musical journey intended to speak to and on behalf of people searching for God.
